CoMuseum Leadership Talk #1 | 17 September 2020

The International Conference CoMuseum organises a series of digital conversations entitled “Leadership in Challenging Times” with local and international experts from Museums and Cultural Organisations. This series of discussions will reflect on how the field of art, culture and education has been affected by the pandemic, how we can come out of the crisis safe and strong, and how we can rethink cultural leadership and reimagine the role and future of cultural organizations.

The first Leadership Talk entitled “Managing Cultural Institutions” hosted and curated by Anastasia Andritsou, director of the British Council in Greece, will focus on managing European cultural organisations in Greece and on ways to confront the crisis.

Panel members:

  • Patrick Comoy, Director of French Institute in Greece
  • Angela Kaya, Director of Goethe Institut Athen
  • Cristina Conde de Beroldingen Geyr, Director Instituto Cervantes Atenas
  • Anna Mondavio, Director of Istituto Italiano di Cultura Atene

The cultural sector has been significantly hit by Covid 19. Recovery might take long so cultural institutions need to rethink and reframe their central role in culture and shape the day after. Emergency management since the outbreak of the pandemic has relied heavily on the organisational leadership, requiring agility, creativity and emotional intelligence. Despite the oblique consequences of Covid 19, cultural institutions do their best to deal with the health, safety, financial and programming challenges that keep arising.

How did some of the most important EU cultural institutions in Greece responded to this unprecedented challenge given that the health of their businesses is visibly linked with the health of workforces and the health of their audiences? And with the second surge of Covid lurking and the high uncertainty surrounding the economic impact of the pandemic how do cultural institutions plan to remain alive and relevant to a broader context, bold to face change and co-design a shared culture-centred future worldwide?

The series are organised by the CoMuseum main partners, the Benaki Museum, the British Council and the U.S. Embassy Greece. The upcoming discussions will be announced at the CoMuseum website soon.

When: Thursday 17 September 2020, 17.00
