The CoMuseum

More Than a Conference
DECEMBER 2– 4, 2020

How do we lead the way out of the crisis with Culture at the centre of recovery? How can we make this recovery consistent with the urgent needs of our environment? How can museums and cultural organisations become catalysts for human equity, freedom of speech and social justice? How can we connect and engage with our audiences without leaving anyone behind in this hyper-engaging and fast-developing digital world? And, finally, how can we best serve our communities, becoming safe spaces for creativity and wellbeing?

These are some of the questions that the 10th CoMuseum International Conference 2020 will raise.

In the tenth annual conference, professionals from museums and cultural organizations, artists, civil society representatives, educators, activists, and university students will examine the role of leadership for museums and cultural organizations during challenging times, the role of museums in the protection of civil rights and the promotion of social justice, the ongoing digital transformation in the cultural field, and the stance museums take towards environmental protection and the wellbeing of their staff and visitors.

The conference will feature global experts, leaders of important cultural organizations who are change makers in the field and advocates of the power that culture has on people’s lives. Through a series of presentations and discussions, they will share with us their invaluable knowledge and experiences.

On December 3 and 4, the CoMuseum will present a series of virtual workshops and masterclasses for museum and culture professionals.  The workshops will be conducted in English without interpretation.

Registration opens November 18 and will be available until November 30. Registration for the workshops and masterclasses will be available November 18 through 25. Registration is necessary for both the plenary session and the workshops.

The CoMuseum2020 is a free event thanks to the generous support of Uni Systems.

The working language for the conference and the workshops is English. Selected presentations on December 2 will be subtitled in Greek.

Dr. Lina Mendoni, Minister of Culture and Sports will open the conference.

More Than a Conference
DECEMBER 2– 4, 2020

Following closely the developments of the COVID19 pandemic and the guidelines of the WHO and the Greek Ministries of Culture and Health, the organising committee of the CoMuseum International Conference is planning its next event for December 2-4, 2020.  We are eager to bring to our community new inspiration, skills, capacity building and a platform of co-creation for our cultural ecosystem amidst the challenges we are currently facing.

The health and safety of our audience and stakeholders is our priority and we will confirm the final dates and format of the 2020 CoMuseum in early fall.

In the meantime, you can follow the CoMuseum’s social media to learn about upcoming digital activities – web chats, webinars and more.

After a decade of annual events offering capacity building for the museum and cultural community in Greece, the Museum Conference will soon launch its new identity.  The CoMuseum International Conference, taking place in Athens and Thessaloniki, will feature top international experts from museums and cultural institutions that will share insights on many different areas.  and ideas on the present and future of museums, and other CoMuseum activities will be organised throughout the year.  The next conference is scheduled for December 2-4, 2020. Our priority, of course, is the health and safety of our community, therefore, we will take all necessary measures to create a safe event, and may adjust the dates and set up of our main conference to ensure the wellbeing of our participants and stakeholders.
